Pleased As Can Be by How Well the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 Handles Visual Anomalies

Usually when buying lenses one has to worry about things like distortion and chromatic aberrations but this is not the case with the Panasonic 20mm 1.7. These things are virtually non-existent when using this lens but unfortunately the same cannot be said for vignetting. It would appear that this is the one weakness that this lens suffers from but depending on your shooting style this does not necessarily mean it is a huge problem. It seems to be most pronounced when shooting at f/1.7 but to be honest it did not matter that much to me. The fact that most image editing software packages these days have the ability to add vignetting to your snaps should be a good indication that this is not something to worry about. Of course, most of my shoots I convert to black and white so the vignetting adds something special to it but your preferences will obviously differ.

Wedding Photographer SEO Checklist

There are loads of wedding photographers around. How to step ahead of the competition? Apart from improving your photography and distinguishing your work (highly recommended), the best advice lies in search engine optimization. SEO helps search engines index and find you when people search for the services you offer. London wedding photographer Randall Murrow advises photography training students to focus on a few key elements:

First there’s what I call the Holy Trinity:

  1. URL: If your blog posts looking something like “myurl.com?=5678″ then you need to research “permalinks” and fix what could otherwise be a fatal error to your on-site SEO. Assuming you’re not in that camp, choose a URL rewrite that includes your target keywords. A good example for someone in Oxford might be: “myurl.com/westminster-wedding-photographer/.”
  2. Post title: Ideally your post title should be reflected in your URL. So in the above example, the post title might be “Westminster Wedding Photographer: Wills and Kate.” The names of your clients might not be vital for the URL (in terms of SEO, at least) but they’ll definitely be vital in terms of PR when the post title appears on your blog. Omit your clients’ names at your peril.
  3. H1 heading: Again, take your cue from the URL and post title.

These three elements work together to tell viewers and search engines what the post is about. Within the post there are elements I call “the guts.”

  1. Image Alt tags: since search engines can’t “see” images, they rely on thetags to tell them what the image is about. Use your keywords here to your advantage, but take care that you don’t overdo it by being repetitive and spammy.
  2. Links: use at least one hyperlinked URL for every 150 or so words of text. Make them relevant links.
  3. Bold text: this tells the search engines that the included text holds more weight. Use your keywords carefully here.

Finally there are fingers in your site pointing to the post, including:

  1. Post tags: make these narrow and specific. I see too many wedding photographers tagging their posts with generic tags like “wedding photography” or “London.” Duh! Think “long tail” search here, and choose terms like “Posh wedding photography venue” (using the appropriate venue, of course) and “London wedding photographers.”
  2. Categories: see above.

To prevent duplicate content in search engines, ensure that either your tags or categories are indexed by the search engines. But not both. Otherwise your tag archive page “myurl.com/tag/london-wedding-photographers” will exactly match your category archive page “myurl.com/category/london-wedding-photographers.” In such cases the search engines will penalize you and drop your pages from the results.
