Through our integrated offering we provide clients with superior intelligence in social and build infrastructure solutions. Our dedicated experts deliver comprehensive project management and engineering and design capabilities across a wide range of structures, systems and facilities necessary for any new or existing project to function successfully.
Our broad exposure in this sector – with over 10 years of specialized experience worldwide – has built a clear understanding of the technical and commercial requirements needed to successfully implement infrastructure projects. Working seamlessly across our 20 offices in 14 countries, we combine creativity and innovation to help realize the next generation of projects from township development, administration offices, access control and laboratories to workshops, winder buildings and stores. Our broad-ranging skills in alternate engineering disciplines means we are also proficient in in all electrical infrastructure including substations, transformer bays and generator rooms as well as earthworks, dams, roads, rail systems and water storage, supply and reticulation.
We cover all aspects in the design and implementation of measurement programs to which support clients in the development of detailed environmental design criteria for projects.
Due to our collaborative approach, we can provide the following services:
- Facilitation of Water Use License Applications (WULA)
- Stormwater management investigations
- Township developments and accommodation
- Hospitals and clinics
- RAP Relocation
- Terraces and platforms
- ROM Pads
- Box Cuts
- Primary roads
- Main access roads
- Internal roads
- Service roads

Our team of engineering professionals in 5 continents have global coverage and local knowledge in the design of small and large scale steel structures.
Ours is a truly integrated operation. Our experience across the mining, industrial, agricultural and commercial sectors with the expertise to design according to international design code and source materials through our global procurement capabilities facilitates a single point of contact for clients.
In using state-of-the-art software packages we are able to design for all static and dynamic forces present and through our extensive experience in Finite Element Analysis we execute advanced, dynamic or nonlinear analysis on any structure.
Our services in structural analysis and steel component design includes:
A well-designed and properly installed bulk materials handling system can increase throughput efficiency, maximizing productivity and minimizing plant operating costs.
We offer complete materials handling solutions in the mining, power, biomass, aggregate production and transportation industries. Our engineering professionals function as an extension of our clients’ team through the design, construction and commissioning of overland conveyors, bulk storage and reclaim systems, truck and barge loaders and unloaders, unit batch weigh loadouts, unit train unloading systems and many more. Our systems are built to meet the highest environmental standards and transport coal, metallurgical coke, petroleum coke, frac sands, biomass, limestone, gypsum, cement and ash, among other aggregates.
Over the past ten years, DRA has designed and installed more than 300km of conveyors in all five major climate types – from frozen arctic conditions to hot and dusty terrain. The Khumani Iron Ore Mine saw the successful design and construction of 82 different conveyors which covered a total of 25.5 km; additional conveyors were added during subsequent expansion phases.
We also design and construct conveyor belt feeders, bins, silos, stockpiles and bulk transfer stations.
Our unsurpassed global coverage in civil engineering infrastructure, both large and small scale projects and public and private sector developments, affords clients particular insight into development needs in environmentally sensitive areas. Our commitment to delivering projects safely with minimal environmental impact and help clients meet international industry specific environmental standards.
We offer comprehensive structural analysis and design of concrete structures in the mining, industrial, private and commercial sectors, including the following:
In both the public and private sector, we provide clients with architectural services for small, medium and large developments. Our capabilities extend from simple structures to complex multi-disciplinary projects, offering conceptual and detailed design, project management and execution solutions.
Our design methodology is based on cost and environmental sustainability and applies a philosophy of innovation beyond current. We ensure environmental sustainability through the use of renewable energy solutions, biodegradable materials, insulation, effective building orientation and fenestration.
We can deliver commercially effective solutions in:
Kibali Gold Mine
Client: Rand Gold Resources
Location: Democratic Republic of Congo
We successfully managed the engineering, procurement and construction of Randgold’s 7.2 Mtpa Kibali gold processing plant, 22MW hydropower plant and all associated infrastructure from the feasibility phase to execution. The infrastructure package included boxcut and shaft earthworks, concrete works, steel works, access roads, airstrip upgrade, concrete lined pit diversion channels and haul road crossings, storm water control and buildings.
Tweefontein Optimization Project
Client: Glencore Xstrata
Location: South Africa
We successfully completed Glencore Xstrata’s Tweefontein Optimization Project comprising the coal preparation plant (CPP) and associated infrastructure. The CPP building incorporated a modular structural design making construction easier and reduced safety risks by conducting the majority of bolting work on the ground while the modules were pre-assembled. Entire 7x7 m bays of steelwork, grating, hand-railing and minor platework items were assembled and bolted on ground level, and then installed as a single integrated unit with one crane lift. The project was awarded ‘Best Civil Engineering Project of the Year 2013’ by Crown Publications ‘Construction World Best Projects Awards’.
Moatize Expansion Project
Our team of experts was contracted to provide all infrastructure associated with the processing plant at Vale’s Moatize Expansion Project. The project comprised all buildings, earthworks, drainage, services, utility systems and associated electrical and instrumentation reticulation. We integrated all new structures, elements and/or systems with the phase 1 operations and other design and construct packages. This was the largest design only project completed by DRA and forms the largest coal terminal in Africa.
