A well-designed and properly installed bulk materials handling system can increase throughput efficiency, maximizing productivity and minimizing plant operating costs. DRA Global offers complete materials handling solutions in the mining, power, biomass, aggregate production and transportation industries.
Engineering professionals function as an extension of the client team through the design, construction and commissioning of overland conveyors, bulk storage and reclaim systems, truck and barge loaders and unloaders, unit batch weigh loadouts, unit train unloading systems and many more. DRA Global has designed and installed more than 300km of conveyors in all five major climate types – from frozen arctic conditions to hot and dusty terrain. The Khumani Iron Ore Mine saw the successful design and construction of 82 different conveyors which covered a total of 25.5 km; additional conveyors were added during subsequent expansion phases. The organisation also designed and constructed conveyor belt feeders, bins, silos, stockpiles and bulk transfer stations.

Kibali Gold Mine
Client: Rand Gold Resources
Location: Democratic Republic of Congo
DRA Global successfully managed the engineering, procurement and construction of Randgold’s 7.2 Mtpa Kibali gold processing plant, 22MW hydropower plant and all associated infrastructure from the feasibility phase to execution. The infrastructure package included box cut and shaft earthworks, concrete works, steel works, access roads, airstrip upgrade, concrete lined pit diversion channels and haul road crossings, storm water control and buildings.
Tweefontein Optimization Project
Client: Glencore Xstrata
Location: South Africa
Successfully completed Glencore Xstrata’s Tweefontein Optimisation Project comprising the coal preparation plant (CPP) and associated infrastructure. The CPP building incorporated a modular structural design making construction easier and reduced safety risks by conducting the majority of bolting work on the ground while the modules were pre-assembled. Entire 7x7 m bays of steelwork, grating, hand-railing and minor platework items were assembled and bolted on ground level, and then installed as a single integrated unit with one crane lift. The project was awarded ‘Best Civil Engineering Project of the Year 2013’ by Crown Publications ‘Construction World Best Projects Awards’.
Moatize Expansion Project
DRA Global was contracted to provide all infrastructure associated with the processing plant at Vale’s Moatize Expansion Project. The project comprised all buildings, earthworks, drainage, services, utility systems and associated electrical and instrumentation reticulation. All new structures, elements and/or systems were integrated with the phase 1 operations and other design and construct packages. This was the largest design only project completed by DRA Global and forms the largest coal terminal in Africa.
