Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer
Wray Carvelas is the Chief Executive Officer of the DRA Group. Wray joined DRA in 2001 and became the CEO of DRA Americas at the beginning of 2011.
He has over 25 years’ experience in gold, copper, diamonds, iron ore, nickel and platinum. Before moving to North America, Wray was DRA’s Director of Projects for Africa, managing a project portfolio valued at between four and five billion dollars. Wray has significant experience in operations management and project delivery and is particularly skilled in fast-tracking large scale projects. Since 2011, Wray has been focused on in growing DRA’s business in the Americas, both organically as well as through acquisition.
Wray is a metallurgist and has an MBA degree, adding formal management training to his significant practical leadership experience.
CFO & Strategy Director
Andrew Naude is CFO and Strategy Director of DRA Group Holdings. Andrew worked in the financial services industry for just short of 20 years with almost a decade of his experience earned at executive level. He is an expert in corporate finance and strategic planning and has achieved exceptional financial results, for various organisations, throughout his career. Andrew joined DRA in 2013 as Chief Commercial Officer, and has been instrumental in M & A and JV activity for DRA in Africa, USA, Canada and Australia.
Andrew holds a BComm (Finance) and a BComm Hons (Accounting), and is a Chartered Accountant. He is a member of SAICA and Institute of Directors.
Executive Vice President
Neale Goddard is Executive Vice President – Project Delivery. Neale has 21 years’ industry experience, 16 of which were earned at DRA. He has worked on small to large-scale mining/engineering projects in various locations around the world and is currently responsible for strategic business deliverables for the DRA Group. Neale is trusted with integrating and driving efficiencies in the Projects business as well as developing strategies for the group to enhance the organisation’s value proposition on a global scale.
Educated in South Africa, Neale holds a B.Sc. Eng (Mechanical) from University of the Witwatersrand and is a registered professional engineer (ECSA), registered project management professional (PMI) and has recently completed the Cranfield Directors Programme.
Executive Vice President
Gerhard Hendriksz is the Executive Vice President. Gerhard has over 25 years’ experience, 12 years broader industry experience and 13 years in mineral operations. Gerhard is responsible for the operations arm of DRA, Minopex. This division is acknowledged as a leader in contract operations and plant maintenance with highly successful plant operations not only in South Africa but also in Botswana, Lesotho, Tanzania and Mozambique.
Gerhard completed his NHD in Extractive Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering in 1989 at the Vaal Triangle Technikon. He is a member of SAIMM and MMMA.
Executive Vice President
Rick W. Thomas is the Executive Vice President of Energy Operations. Rick has over 36 years of experience in engineering, operations management and business development. He has worked extensively throughout the United States, managing underground and surface coal mining operations, coal sales and acquisition of industrial minerals and coal mining companies. In his current role Rick oversees DRA’s Energy Operations division, which specializes in the operation and maintenance of refined coal facilities installed at energy producing utilities.
Rick holds an MBA from Duke University and an M.Sc. (Mining Engineering) from the University of Kentucky, and is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Senior Vice President: America
Phildi Scholtz is the Senior Vice President for the Americas region. Phildi joined DRA in 1998 and has over 22 years of industry experience. As DRA’s Projects Director, he was instrumental in securing, developing and delivering a number of large scale projects across a range of commodities, including gold, diamonds, coal, iron ore, copper, chrome, platinum, nickel and zinc. He has supported projects internationally throughout Africa, Canada, the United States, China, India and Australia. In his current role as Senior Vice President, Phildi will oversee the delivery of DRA’s projects and studies across North and South America.
Phildi holds a B.Sc. Eng (Mechanical) from of the University of Pretoria, is a registered professional engineer (ECSA) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMI).
Senior Vice President: Pacific
Chad Botha is the Senior Vice President of the Pacific Region. Chad has 20 years’ industry experience, 12 of which have been earned at DRA managing engineering projects across Africa and Australia. Chad has recently assumed responsibility for driving the strategy and performance of DRA’s Australasian operations, and will oversee the successful delivery of all projects across the Asia-Pacific region.
Chad holds an engineering degree from the University of Cape Town, and a diploma in project management. He is a registered engineer and project management professional.
Senior Vice President: Africa
Alistair Hodgkinson is the Senior Vice President for the African Region. Alistair joined DRA in 2007 and has over 21 years’ industry experience. He has been involved in large scale mining and minerals processing projects across Africa, implementing various greenfields and brownfields resources projects. In his current role as Senior Vice President, Alistair oversees the successful delivery of all projects across Africa.
Alistair completed his B.Sc. Eng (Mechanical) at the University of the Witwatersrand, holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town and is a registered professional engineer.
