Mine plant with associated infrastructure

DRA Global was approached to develop the Voorspoed project, part of a four-phase development of the Messina platinum mine. Client required an interim 30 ktpm concentrator to be built in record time.

  • DRA undertook the EPCM for the project which involved: Project management, detailed design work, procurement management, technical documentation, final project design report, construction management.
  • Project infrastructure involved: Terraces for plant and infrastructure, change rooms, electrical and instrumentation works, electrical buildings, potable water, sewage reticulation, roads and drainage, storm water management, fate house, access control and offices.

DRA was expected to complete the project, from initial design to final commissioning in 5 months – a process that normally takes 12 to 16 months.  The project’s timeline constraints necessitated innovative methods. DRA sourced and refurbished a number of key plant components. Steel fabrication was accelerated by sourcing ad coordinating the effort of 11 fabricators, delivering and erecting the steel in sequence while ensuring quality at every stage and eliminating double handling.
