Project description /

The project consisted of a feasibility study and implementation a new platinum mine, processing plant and associated plant and mining surface infrastructure. The associated surface infrastructure included earthworks, concrete works, steel works, mechanical and electrical equipment, high voltage power lines, roads, services, storm water control, buildings, tailings facilities, accommodation camps and Housing development.

Services provided /

DRA undertook the bankable feasibility study for the project which involved Project description, technical requirements, estimated capital costs, draft project schedule, contracting methodology and risk analysis.

Subsequent to the approval of the feasibility study, DRA was awarded the implementation of the project which commenced in January 2007 and involved the following engineering design, project services, procurement service, construction & safety management, testing and final commissioning of all equipment and preferred consultancy services, as specified by AAP.

Project challenges /

The key challenges were to construct a first world class mine and concentrator project in Zimbabwe in remote conditions. Project chanllenges included hyperinflation of the Zimbawean Dollar, environmental challenges, political instability, complex logistics and appointing of local contractors for key contracts.
